Chapter 8 Questions

  1. Because Daisy was a rich young beautiful girl that many boys wanted which attracted Gatsby towards her.
  2. n the way George stares “into the twilight” by himself, there is an echo of what we’ve often seen Gatsby doing – staring at Daisy’s Dock. Both men want something unreachable.
  3. In distraught and anger after his wife’s death, Mr Wilson leaves his apartment in order to seek out the murder of his wife to take revenge for what was taken from him in my opinion.
  4. That Gatsby was killed in his pool which he hadn’t conventionally used all summer, this was a time when Gatsby has his back turned and might not have if he hadn’t been swimming in his pool. This has symbolic meaning as Gatsby now over Daisy decides to do something for himself and realises he wasted his life after Daisy.
  5. “They’re a rotten crowd,” I shouted across the lawn. “You’re worth the whole damn bunch put together.” It’s interesting that here Nick suddenly tells us that he disapproves of Gatsby. One way to interpret this is that during that fateful summer, Nick did indeed disapprove of what he saw but has since come to admire and respect Gatsby, and it is that respect and admiration that come through in the way he tells the story most of the time.
